| Prepared by | Navos International Market Research |
| Series | East Asian Market Research Series · Topic 8 — Ecommerce (deep-dive) |
| Date | 2026-08 · Data vintage: 2024–2025 |
| Language | English |
| Scope | Five regions plus Asia-Pacific country/sub-region splits: North America, Europe, China, Japan & Korea, India, Southeast Asia, Australia/NZ, Latin America, Middle East & Africa — Top 5 ecommerce platforms in each |
| Metric definition | GMV/revenue as the primary metrics, supplemented by market share, user counts, growth rates, and positioning; ranking basis is stated at the start of each region |
Data caveats: Platform GMV/revenue definitions differ (GMV vs net revenue vs transaction value; whether services/cross-border are included; fiscal year vs calendar year; official disclosure vs third-party estimate). Every figure in this report is tagged with source and year; the ranking basis is stated at the start of each region. Source quality follows the audit standard (Grade A/B preferred; lower-quality sources are annotated).

1.2 Five Key Findings
- Amazon is the only platform in the Top 5 in 7+ regions (North America, Europe, Japan, India, Australia/NZ, Middle East, Latin America) — true global ecommerce infrastructure; but its regional share is being eroded by Chinese platforms (US 36%; Europe GMV is unmatched but Temu is rising).
- Chinese platforms going overseas form a second pole: Shopee (Sea), TikTok Shop (ByteDance), Temu (PDD), and Shein respectively dominate or disrupt Southeast Asia, the US/EU, Latin America, and the Middle East — "China-origin" platforms already hold about 46–50% of Southeast Asia platform GMV, about 41.5% in Brazil, and Temu+Shein about 40% in Mexico.
- Local leaders still occupy the top two in most regions: Rakuten (Japan), Coupang (Korea), Flipkart (India), Mercado Libre (LatAm), Noon (Middle East), Jumia/Takealot (Africa), Allegro (Central Europe), Zalando/Vinted (Europe) — the ecommerce landscape is "globalization + localization" at once, and local platforms are generally profitable or improving.
- TikTok Shop is the fastest-growing Top 5 player worldwide: global GMV about $64B (+94%), Southeast Asia $45.6B (doubled) into #2, US $15.1B (+68%); expanding from Southeast Asia into the US/EU (Australia/NZ in preparation).
- Emerging-region Top 5s are highly concentrated and the lineup is shifting fast: SEA top 3 hold 98.8%; Vietnam TikTok Shop share up to ~41%; Korea Shinsegae × Alibaba JV launched; LatAm Magalu/Casas Bahia ecommerce is contracting; Australia/NZ local platforms Catch/MyDeal shut down — the market is entering a "giant-consolidation" phase, with the window for new entrants in vertical categories, content commerce, and localized services.
(Detailed figures for each region are in Chapters 2–10.)
2. North America
Ranking basis: by US ecommerce sales/GMV (Marketplace Pulse definition). Shopify is merchant infrastructure (not a marketplace) and is included because its merchants’ sales are about 14% of US ecommerce. TikTok Shop (#6, US GMV $15.1B) and Etsy are near-list platforms.
| Rank | Platform | Company | Key data | US ecommerce share | Positioning & strengths |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Amazon | Amazon.com | North America segment net sales FY2024 $387.5B (+10%); US sales 2025 about $440B | 35.7% (Marketplace Pulse 2025; eMarketer definition about 40%) | Marketplace+1P+Prime+FBA; 62% of GMV from third-party sellers (Q4'24); ads $17.3B (Q4'24); AI assistant Rufus |
| 2 | Shopify | Shopify Inc. | Global GMV FY2024 $292.2B (+24%); FY2025 revenue ~$11.56B (+30%); GMV >$300B (MP est. $378B ⚠) | ~14% (2025) | World’s largest ecommerce SaaS/D2C infrastructure; Shop Pay+fulfillment+POS; AI shopping orders +15x |

| 5 | Temu | PDD Holdings | US GMV 2024 about $25B → 2025 about $22B (MP est.) | ~2% | Ultra-low-price cross-border; end of de minimis (May 2025) directly hit the direct-mail model; growth stalled |
| Near-list | TikTok Shop | ByteDance | US GMV 2025 $15.1B (+68%); 2024 $9B | ~1.3–2% | Social+live commerce; still growing fast amid US ownership controversy |
⚠️ Definition note: Amazon’s US share differs between 35.7% (Marketplace Pulse GMV definition) and ~40% (eMarketer retail-ecommerce definition); Temu US GMV is a third-party estimate (PDD does not disclose); Walmart does not disclose US ecommerce GMV ("~$15B" is 3P marketplace only).
2025 developments: the end of de minimis duty-free treatment reset Temu/Shein’s low-price model; Amazon Haul (low-price store) and Rufus AI launched; Shopify first crossed $10B revenue/$300B GMV; eBay strategically narrowed to collectibles; TikTok Shop kept growing through the ownership controversy.

3. Europe
Ranking basis: by ECDB 2025 Europe GMV ranking (Amazon ~$232B #1, ≈ the sum of #2–10 at $244B), excluding Russia-local platforms Ozon/Wildberries (essentially unreachable for global merchants); #5 decided by company-disclosed GMV. AliExpress (ECDB #4), Shein (#7), and eBay (CBCommerce #3) are near-list platforms.
| Rank | Platform | Company | Key data | Positioning & strengths |

| Near-list | AliExpress | Alibaba | ECDB Europe #4; CBCommerce cross-border #4 | Alibaba’s cross-border flagship; 2025 launched "Local+" local fulfillment |
⚠️ Definition note: Amazon Europe GMV (ECDB, including 3P) is not directly comparable with Amazon International segment net sales ($142.9B/2024); Allegro PLN 69.2B is a group definition (Poland local PLN 66.4B); Shein "US+EU >$40B" (Modaes) uses a different definition from its US GMV ~$6B and global revenue $41.8B — do not mix.
2025 developments: the EU opened a DSA investigation into Temu (maximum fine 6% of global turnover); from July 2026 a €3/parcel small-package customs charge hits the direct-mail model; Zalando completed the ABOUT YOU acquisition; Vinted Germany turned to profit; AliExpress shifted toward local fulfillment.

4. China
Ranking basis: by GMV (third-party estimates, calendar year) — Chinese platforms almost never disclose GMV: only Kuaishou discloses officially; JD.com stopped after 2017, Alibaba discloses growth rates only, and Pinduoduo/Douyin never disclose. So 4 of 5 GMVs are third-party estimates (±10–30% error) and must be labeled.
| Rank | Platform | Company | GMV (est.) | Company revenue (official) | Users | Positioning & strengths |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Taobao/Tmall | Alibaba | ~¥8 trillion (2024 est., about $1.1T) | FY2025 ¥996.3 billion (+6%, fiscal-year definition) | Annual buyers ~1 billion; 11.11 DAU 508 million | Tmall B2C brand stores + Taobao C2C long tail; strongest in apparel, beauty, home; 88VIP; 2025 launched Taobao Flash Sale |
| 2–4 (tight race) | Pinduoduo | PDD Holdings | ~¥4.3–4.4 trillion (2025 est.; another estimate ¥5.2 trillion) | 2025 revenue ¥430 billion+ (+10%); Q4 ¥123.9 billion (+12% but profit −12%) | 900 million+ buyers; 11.11 DAU 414 million | Extreme low price + group buying + 10-billion subsidy; lower-tier markets and agricultural products; Temu going overseas |
| 2–4 (tight race) | JD.com | JD Group | ~¥4.5 trillion (2024 rumor) | 2025 revenue ¥1,309.1 billion (+13%); net profit ¥27.0 billion (another definition ¥19.6 billion) | Annual active 700 million+; 11.11 DAU 227 million | 1P 3C/appliances + owned logistics + JD Instant Delivery; 2025 entered food delivery; claims it still leads Douyin by ¥1 trillion |
| 2–4 (tight race) | Douyin ecommerce | ByteDance | ¥3.5 trillion (2024, +30%) → 2025 expected ¥4.0–4.3 trillion | Not disclosed (private) | MAU 907 million (#1 among all apps) | Pioneer of content/live commerce ("full-domain interest ecommerce"); live GMV share ~28% (ahead of Taobao Live) |
| 5 | Kuaishou ecommerce | Kuaishou Technology | ~¥1.6 trillion (2025, official+media) | FY2025 ¥142.8 billion (+12.5%); adjusted net profit ¥20.6 billion (a record) | DAU declining (only one of the five major content platforms) | Live commerce + lower-tier markets ("trust ecommerce"); agricultural products/white-label; Kuaishou distribution system |
⚠️ Key definition notes: 1. Ranks 2–4 are contested: 2024 estimates put JD.com (~¥4.5 trillion) ≥ Pinduoduo (~¥4.3–4.4 trillion) > Douyin (¥3.5 trillion); 2025 estimates have Douyin (~¥4.3 trillion) catching/overtaking JD.com, and 100EC says Douyin has already overtaken Pinduoduo and JD.com (JD.com denies this). This table presents them as a tie. 2. GMVs are all third-party estimates (except Kuaishou); revenues are official disclosures but use different definitions (marketplaces recognize only commissions/ad revenue; JD.com 1P recognizes full merchandise value). 3. Data definitions: Alibaba is fiscal year (April–following March); the others are calendar year; NBS online retail ¥15.97 trillion (2025, +8.6%) includes services and is not directly comparable with platform GMV. 4. Kuaishou GMV conflict: media report ~¥1.6 trillion vs 100EC report ¥521.8 billion (possibly a quarterly figure or a transcription error).
2025 developments: the price war ebbed (618 "abandon the price war"); Douyin "squeezed water" and shifted toward merchant profitability; JD.com entered food delivery/quick commerce (JD Instant Delivery vs Taobao Flash Sale); China live-commerce GMV crossed ¥5 trillion (Douyin ~28%, Taobao Live <20%); Pinduoduo "rebuild another Pinduoduo in three years" plus a ¥100-billion+ supply-chain investment; Alibaba pivoted to AI/cloud as a second curve.

5. Japan & South Korea
5.1 Japan
Ranking basis: disclosed GMV first (only Rakuten discloses a large GMV), otherwise by revenue; Amazon Japan by third-party estimate. #1/#2 order is contested (see note).

| 1 | Rakuten Ichiba | Rakuten Group | Domestic ecommerce GMV ¥6.35T (FY2025 calendar year, about $41–42B); group revenue a record for 29 consecutive years | Japan’s largest marketplace; Rakuten points closed loop across ecommerce/finance (Card/Bank)/mobile |
| 2 | Amazon Japan | Amazon | 2025 sales +12% (est.); Chinese sellers as the main growth force | Full assortment+Prime next-day; strong in electronics/daily goods; ⚠️ some media claim it already topped Japan in 2025 (contested) |
| 3 | Yahoo! Shopping / LINE Yahoo | LY Corporation | Group FY2025 revenue a record (about ¥2.5T, Media & EC led); GMV not disclosed | Search+shopping+LINE+PayPay ecosystem; strong in fashion/lifestyle |
| 4 | Mercari | Mercari Inc | FY2025 (through Jun 2025) revenue ¥192.6B; cross-border GMV >¥90B | C2C second-hand leader; expanding into cross-border and finance (Merpay) |

⚠️ Definition note: Rakuten is listed #1 by disclosed GMV (¥6.35T is the largest official platform GMV found); Amazon Japan has no official Japan revenue and is listed #2 by estimated growth — their 2025 ranking is contested. Temu/AliExpress cross-border is growing fast but has not yet entered the top five. Fiscal-year definitions differ (Rakuten calendar year / Mercari through June / ZOZO through March / LY through March); do not mix.

| Near-list | Kakao Commerce | Kakao Corp | KakaoTalk shopping ecosystem | Alternative #5 candidate |
⚠️ Definition and conflict notes: Coupang 2024 growth +24% (USD, official) vs +29% (KRW, Chinese media); "Korea ecommerce $1.38T" (a Chinese restatement of Statista) is a methodology mismatch and has been excluded; 11Street/Temu have no official GMV.

6. India
Ranking basis: India has no uniformly audited GMV series — by FY2025 GMV/share estimates (ICICI Securities: share and users; CLSA: Meesho; company financials). Quick commerce is included in the Top 5: Zepto annualized GOV (~$4B) and Blinkit GOV (≈ Zomato food delivery) already exceed Nykaa GMV; Myntra is folded into Flipkart Group to avoid double-counting. Note: q-comm uses GOV (including non-merchandise categories), which is not fully comparable with marketplace GMV, and is treated as a separate high-growth category. India e-retail 2025 about $65B (WPP/MediaCom).
| Rank | Platform | Company | Key data (FY25) | Share / positioning | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Flipkart Group (incl. Myntra) | Walmart | GMV about $33–39B (derived: 50–60% × ~$65B); 220 million users, ~85 million WAU | 50–60% | Mass full-assortment marketplace+fashion (Myntra); Flipkart Minutes quick commerce; planned ~$40 billion IPO (already delayed) |
| 2 | Amazon India | Amazon | Seller-services revenue ₹3 trillion+ (+19%); losses narrowed 89%; first operating profit in 12 years | ~20–25% (est.) | Full assortment+Prime ecosystem; "Bharat" lower-tier strategy; 2025 entered quick commerce (Tez/Now) |
| 3 | Meesho | Meesho (SoftBank-backed) | GMV run-rate $6.2B; 26% CAGR through FY31 (CLSA); IPO filed (₹425 billion new shares) | ~10% (derived) | Value-commerce leader; zero/low commissions; tier-2/3 lower-tier + social distribution |
| 4 | Zepto | Zepto (private) | Annualized GOV ~$4B (Apr 2025); FY25 revenue ₹1.111 trillion (2.5x); $450M pre-IPO raise | Quick commerce #2 | 10-minute delivery; urban focus; three-way fight with Blinkit/Instamart |
| 5 | Blinkit | Eternal (formerly Zomato) | Q4 FY25 GOV "neck and neck" with Zomato food delivery; Q3 revenue +117%; 2026 Q1 order value first exceeded Zomato food delivery | Quick commerce #1 | Quick-commerce leader; 10-minute grocery+general merchandise; dark-store network expanding fast |
| Near-list | Nykaa | FSN E-Commerce | FY25 GMV +27%; FY26 revenue crossed ₹1 trillion | Beauty #1 | Omnichannel beauty (237 stores) |
⚠️ Definition note: India market-size definitions vary widely ($60B estimate / $65B e-retail 2025 / $174–214B FY30 forecast); Flipkart and Amazon absolute GMV are derived estimates; q-comm GOV is not directly comparable with marketplace GMV; quick commerce drove 45% of 2025 festival-season purchases.

7. Southeast Asia
Ranking basis: by Momentum Works Ecommerce in SEA 2026 platform GMV (CY2025 total $157.6B, +22.8%; top 3 hold 98.8%). Another definition, e-Conomy SEA (Google-Temasek-Bain), puts 2025 ecommerce at about $181B (including non-platform channels) — the two definitions must not be mixed. Ranks 4–5 are estimates (Momentum Works only publishes granularity for the top three; the long tail totals only ~1.2%).
| Rank | Platform | Company | GMV 2025 | Share | Positioning & strengths |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Shopee | Sea Ltd | Southeast Asia $83.2B; global $127.4B (+26.8%) | ~53% | Mass market+gamification+owned logistics (SPX)+SeaMoney; Indonesia share 54% |
| 2 | TikTok Shop (incl. Tokopedia Indonesia) | ByteDance | Southeast Asia $45.6B (about 2×); global about $64B | ~29% | Live/content commerce; after the 2023 Indonesia ban, acquired ~75% of Tokopedia for $1.5B and integrated operations |
| 3 | Lazada | Alibaba | about $26.9B (derived: 98.8%×157.6−83.2−45.6) | ~17% | Alibaba flagship; owned logistics; overtaken by TikTok Shop into third; Vietnam Lazada+Tiki only 3% left |
| 4 | Amazon.sg | Amazon | about $1–2B (est.) | <1.5% | Singapore-focused; Prime Now/Fresh |
| 5 | Tiki | Tiki Corp | about $0.5B (est.) | <1% | Vietnam local platform (electronics/books); share declining |
⚠️ Definition and conflict notes: 1. Two total-size definitions: Momentum Works platform GMV $157.6B (2025) vs e-Conomy SEA ecommerce $181B (including non-platform) — cite the series when quoting. 2. TikTok Shop SEA $45.6B (TNGlobal "~2x") differs from some media "+132%" and Indonesia-only $13.1B (MOCA) (the latter may understate or exclude Tokopedia volume). 3. Do not mix Shopee Southeast Asia $83.2B with global $127.4B; Lazada GMV is a derived estimate (Alibaba does not disclose). 4. "Chinese platforms about 50% of SEA GMV": TikTok Shop (~29%)+Lazada (~17%) ≈46%, plus Temu/Shein (not in the platform GMV series) approaches 50% — partially supported. 5. Country divergence: Indonesia 2025 platform GMV $57.7B (Shopee 54%), growth slowing (Ministry of Trade: ecommerce only +2.2%); Vietnam Top4 platform sales 429 trillion dong (+34.8%), TikTok Shop share up to ~41%; Thailand the fastest growth (~+52%, second-hand).

8. Australia & New Zealand
8.1 Australia
Ranking basis: Roy Morgan shopper counts (the most comparable cross-platform metric: Amazon/Temu each added about 1 million shoppers, Shein added 500,000, through Sep 2025) + locally filed revenue (Amazon A$7.7B, Kogan A$931M). Catch (Wesfarmers, shut Jan 2025) and MyDeal (Woolworths) are already out. Australia 2025 online spend A$82.6B (+14%, AusPost).
| Rank | Platform | Company | Key data | Positioning & strengths |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Amazon AU | Amazon | 2024 local revenue A$7.7B (ecommerce +23%, Prime subscriptions +39%); annual add about A$1B | Fastest-growing large platform; marketplace+1P+FBA+Prime; about 1 million new shoppers |
| 2 | Temu | PDD Holdings | Annual add about 1 million shoppers (through Sep 2025, Roy Morgan) | Ultra-low-price cross-border + heavy advertising; squeezing local retail (partly blamed for Catch’s shutdown) |
| 3 | eBay AU | eBay | Veteran #2 marketplace; no new 2024–25 data ⚠️ | C2C/second-hand/auto parts/collectibles |
| 4 | Kogan.com | Kogan.com | FY2025 revenue about A$931M (⚠️ a Chinese source mislabeled the currency as "€931 million"; it is AUD) | Australia’s largest listed pure-play online retailer (electronics/appliances/private label); marketplace+1P hybrid |
| 5 | Shein | Shein Group | Annual add 500,000+ shoppers (Roy Morgan) | Ultra-fast-fashion cross-border; app-first; strong Gen Z penetration |
2025 developments: Catch (Wesfarmers shutdown, about A$230 million invested) and MyDeal (Woolworths) exited; Amazon/Temu/Shein dominate growth and domestic retailers lose share; TikTok Shop had not launched in Australia as of mid-2025 (in preparation).
8.2 New Zealand
- Trade Me remains New Zealand’s largest marketplace (parent took a NZ$138 million impairment in 2025 as sales and growth slowed); 82% of New Zealanders shop online (IAB NZ 2025).
- Amazon, Temu, and Shein are likewise "tightening their grip on the ANZ marketplace"; New Zealand platform revenue data is missing (Trade Me/Amazon NZ revenue not captured — recommend supplementing with Euromonitor/Statista research).

9. Latin America
Ranking basis: GMV/revenue disclosures (Mercado Libre, Magalu, Casas Bahia) + Brazil traffic share (Shopee, Amazon; Conversion/SimilarWeb: 2025 Brazil ecommerce visits 33.9 billion, MELI #1 at 15.3%, Shopee #2, Amazon #3) + qualitative standing. Latin America is most complete for Brazil data; Mexico is counted separately (Temu #1 in traffic).
| Rank | Platform | Company | Key data | Positioning & strengths |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mercado Libre | MercadoLibre (NASDAQ: MELI) | FY2025 GMV ~$65B; 120 million+ buyers; Q4'25 revenue $8.76B (+45%), GMV $19.9B (+36.8%) | Latin America’s undisputed leader; Mercado Pago fintech synergy; owned logistics; Q4 Brazil GMV +35% (FX-neutral) |
| 2 | Shopee | Sea Ltd | Brazil traffic #2 (recaptured in 2025); Brazil GMV not disclosed ([GAP]); group Q4'25 GMV $36.7B | Brazil is Shopee’s fastest-growing market; low price+cross-border+local logistics (SPX Express) |
| 3 | Amazon (.com.br) | Amazon.com | Brazil traffic #3; Brazil GMV not disclosed ([GAP]) | Global marketplace+Prime logistics; sales and logistics partnership with Magalu; low-price strategy against Asian cross-border |
| 4 | Magazine Luiza (Magalu) | Magalu (B3: MGLU3) | FY2025 net revenue R$27.2B (about $4.7–4.9B, official earnings-document definition); Q4 gross profit R$3.3B (+3.1%) | Brazil’s largest omnichannel retailer; MagaluPay finance; ecommerce deliberately contracted, stores carrying performance |
| 5 | Grupo Casas Bahia | Casas Bahia (B3: BHIA3) | 2025 GMV a record (value not disclosed [GAP]); debt cut 77%; Q4 credit sales a record | Credit-driven lower-tier retail; ecommerce was the 2025 core growth engine; turnaround after restructuring |
| Wildcard | Temu / SHEIN | PDD / Shein | Temu 15.9% of Mexico ecommerce (2025 Q2; full-year ranking unaudited); Temu+Shein Mexico combined about 40% (definition questionable); Brazil Asian cross-border platforms combined about 41.5% | Cross-border low-price shock, but under pressure after Brazil tax hikes |
⚠️ Definition note: the ranking mixes GMV (MELI/Magalu), traffic (Shopee/Amazon), and qualitative standing (Casas Bahia); Brazil is the primary lens — if Mexico is primary, Temu is #1 in traffic and the order differs. Brazil online retail 2025 R$235B (about $40–43B).

10. Middle East & Africa
Ranking basis: Gulf (Noon, Amazon) is a qualitative ranking (neither discloses GMV); Jumia and Takealot by disclosed revenue; Trendyol by second-hand estimate. MEA data is incomplete; gaps are marked [GAP].
10.1 Middle East
| Rank | Platform | Company | Key data | Positioning & strengths |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Noon (noon.com/.sa) | Noon (Emaar + Alabbar; PIF-backed) | GMV/revenue not disclosed [GAP]; Dec 2025 raised $500M (PIF-backed); valuation about $10 billion; planned UAE/Saudi dual listing | Gulf local champion (UAE/KSA/Egypt); noon express logistics, noon fresh grocery, noon pay finance; "approaching profitability" |
| 2 | Amazon.ae / Amazon.sa | Amazon | Country GMV not disclosed [GAP] (rolled into International segment) | Former Souq conversion; one of the Gulf duopoly; influx of Chinese sellers |
| 3 | Jumia | Jumia Technologies (NYSE: JMIA) | FY2025 revenue $188.9M (+13%); losses cut 38% to ~$60.1M; Q4 +34% | Pan-Africa #1 (9+ countries); 2024–25 exited several countries to focus on core markets (Nigeria/Egypt/Morocco etc.); targeting quarterly breakeven in 2026 |
| 4 | Takealot | Naspers/Prosus | FY26 revenue >R16bn (about $1B); first full-year profit; H1 FY26 about $385M | South Africa #1; holding ground under siege from Amazon SA (launched 2024), SHEIN, Temu; logistics opened to third parties |
| 5 | Trendyol | Alibaba (majority stake) | Transaction value about $14B, about 40% of Turkey ecommerce (second-hand estimate, year unclear) | Turkey #1, fashion-led super app; expanding into Saudi/UAE/Eastern Europe; Alibaba sold 85% of Trendyol GO in Dec 2025 (about ¥5 billion) |
⚠️ Definition and gap notes: Noon and Amazon never disclose country GMV (ranking is a qualitative judgment); Trendyol $14B/40% is a second-hand estimate; Jumia FY25 GMV was not captured in this retrieval (revenue has been verified). The Gulf is a Noon vs Amazon duopoly (Saudi social-commerce reports likewise put these two first).

Global platform-footprint insights: - Amazon covers 7-region Top 5s, the only truly global platform; Shopee (2 regions), TikTok Shop (2+ regions), and Temu (4 regions) are expanding fast. - Temu is the fastest-globalizing platform: entered North America/Europe/Australia-NZ/Korea Top 5 within 3 years, the only Chinese platform on the list in 4 regions. - Regional duopolies are common: Korea (Coupang/Naver), India (Flipkart/Amazon), Gulf (Noon/Amazon), Southeast Asia (Shopee/TikTok), Latin America (MELI/Shopee) — global platforms and Chinese platforms contest the top two in every region.
12. Appendix
12.1 Data Scope Notes
- GMV (Gross Merchandise Value): total platform transaction value. Disclosure definitions differ: some include pre-return gross, some are net GMV; Chinese platforms are mostly third-party estimates (officials usually do not disclose).
- Revenue: net income recognized by the company, which differs enormously from GMV (marketplaces recognize only commissions/ads/fulfillment revenue; 1P platforms recognize full merchandise value).
- Market share: definitions differ by source (GMV share vs revenue share vs traffic/visit share). This report states the ranking basis region by region.
- Data years: 2024 is the latest full-year data, 2025 is the latest estimate/already-disclosed data (as of 2026-08); fiscal-year vs calendar-year differences are annotated in the text (e.g. Walmart fiscal year through January, Alibaba fiscal year through March).
- Source quality: follows the audit standard — prefer Grade A (company financials/official disclosures/authoritative research houses) and Grade B (quality industry media); Grade C (Chinese aggregators/SEO) is reference-only and annotated.
