Flipkart Group

Flipkart Group in 1 regional ecommerce markets: India — GMV / share / growth / positioning from each region’s Top-5 report.

QAs a merchant, what do I need to care about?

Nine dimensions merchants should review before joining:

Merchant snapshot

India's #1 full-category marketplace by share (50–60%), best for electronics/fashion/home sellers with an Indian entity that can ship volume; products under ₹1,000 enjoy a zero-commission advantage.

Entry requirements

Self-service registration via Seller Hub (seller.flipkart.com). Requires an India-registered entity (company, individual or LLP all accepted) plus PAN, GSTIN, bank account and a product list; applications are reviewed by category. The interface is mainly English and Hindi; there is no dedicated onboarding channel for Chinese entities, so cross-border sellers must operate through a local entity or an authorized distributor. The group ecosystem includes Flipkart (all categories) and Myntra (fashion, with a separate seller backend), so fashion brands can list on both platforms.

Fee structure

Commission is charged in tiered rates by category; the official fee schedule is at seller.flipkart.com/fees-and-commission. Since November 2025, a zero-commission model applies to products under ₹1,000 (ET/Financial Express), which industry reports say can save sellers up to about 30% in costs (IBTimes). Fixed fees, settlement fees, fulfillment/logistics fees and advertising fees also apply (qualitative; per the latest official fee schedule for specifics).

Getting traffic

The platform brings 220 million users and roughly 85 million weekly actives (ICICI, via Moneycontrol), with the largest organic traffic in India. Its on-site ad system (search ads, display and brand ads) plus the SuperCoins loyalty / UPI payment ecosystem drive repeat purchases. Sales events (Big Billion Days and similar) are traffic peaks, though private labels and first-party products within the ecosystem divert part of the organic traffic.

Fulfilment & logistics

In-house logistics Ekart provides Fulfillment by Flipkart (FBF) warehousing plus delivery; sellers can also ship themselves (self-ship/pickup). Marketplace orders typically deliver in 1–5 days. Quick-commerce Flipkart Minutes runs an in-house dark store model that sellers cannot join directly (the group has slowed Minutes expansion to control cash burn, per Outlook Business).

Payments & settlement

Settlement is in INR via Seller Hub to the seller's registered Indian bank account (NEFT/UPI); settlement cycles follow platform rules (per the official policy). Consumer-facing payment tools such as SuperCoins, UPI and cash on delivery (COD) do not change the merchant's INR settlement flow.

Compliance

The entity must be registered in India with a GSTIN, and the platform collects GST TCS. Categories such as electronics/toys must meet mandatory certifications like BIS/ISI. The business is bound by India's e-commerce FDI rules (marketplaces may not control inventory, and a single large seller's sales share is capped); the government is studying whether to open inventory-based FDI for exports only (BW Businessworld), and the policy direction affects first-party and ecosystem arrangements. The "related seller" (mystery seller) issue is drawing media and regulatory attention (Moneycontrol Tech3).

Key risks

1) Flipkart India's first-party entity widened its FY25 loss to ₹5,189 cr; combined with Minutes cash burn, the platform faces pressure to tighten fees/policies. 2) Rising industry costs: peer Amazon India has raised warehouse storage fees by 11% (Outlook Business), tightening the fee environment. 3) E-commerce FDI policy revisions and regulatory scrutiny of "mystery sellers" could change the operating space. 4) The IPO has been delayed by Walmart in favor of profitability (FY27 target); subsidies and growth investment may shrink, while JioMart/Amazon compete for lower-tier demand.

Best-fit sellers

Best suited to sellers of mass-market products across categories (electronics, fashion, home, FMCG) with an Indian GST entity that prioritize scale and the platform's largest traffic pool; fashion brands can also join Myntra in parallel. Low-price (<₹1,000) volume products benefit from zero commission. Not suited to small sellers without a local entity, purely cross-border self-ship operations, or those relying on high-margin premium positioning (logistics and compliance costs are high).
