Platform Intelligence
Allegro
Allegro in 1 regional ecommerce markets: Europe — GMV / share / growth / positioning from each region’s Top-5 report.
QAs a merchant, what do I need to care about?
Nine dimensions merchants should review before joining:
Merchant snapshot
Poland's #1 marketplace expanding in Central Europe; best for low-to-mid-price sellers targeting Poland and CEE. The Smart! membership + Allegro Pay + parcel-locker closed loop locks in customers, but single-market dependence and slow internationalization are weaknesses.
Entry requirements
A business account can onboard to the Polish site and the international sites (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, launched 2023–24); company-entity qualifications are required and listings support localized languages including Polish and English; dedicated merchant-acquisition channels and localized services exist for international (including Chinese) sellers. Individual sellers can also open personal accounts on the Polish site. The starting barrier is lower than Amazon (no mandatory brand authorization); the core is passing platform onboarding review and category qualifications; new business accounts registered in April 2026 can enjoy a welcome program (official merchant-acquisition policy; per the official rules).
Fee structure
Charges center on sales commission (calculated by category; the platform offers rate tables and a commission calculator), plus business-account subscription packages, optional promotion/ad fees, and logistics service fees; exact rates are per the official fee schedule (Fee and commission calculator at help.allegro.com). No reliable public full-category commission figures exist — do not cite second-hand estimates. Smart! free-delivery-related costs are borne by sellers per order or determined by platform rules — from 2026.3.2, Smart! buyers get free delivery on purchases of PLN 49.90+ (help.allegro.com), and sellers' Smart! delivery cost structure adjusts with the policy.
Getting traffic
Absolute traffic dominance in Poland (GMV ≈ 1% of Polish GDP); Smart! members (7.5M) lock in repeat purchases with free delivery; Allegro Pay (PLN 10.8B in loans in 2024, ~14% of GMV) and One Box parcel lockers (16K+ APMs, incl. DHL; 41% of Q4 parcels) form a "membership + finance + logistics" closed loop; organic traffic favors items with good price, fulfillment scores, and sales. The ad system (Allegro Ads/promotions) is merchants' main incremental traffic source; international sites (CZ/SK/HU) are still in the investment phase, with buyer AOV far below Poland's.
Fulfilment & logistics
The One Box owned parcel-locker network (16K+ APMs, incl. DHL partnership) is the core fulfillment asset, with ~41% of Q4 parcels going through lockers; Smart! free delivery covers all of Poland and imposes fulfillment-speed and cost requirements on sellers. Cross-border sellers can use official cross-border logistics or local overseas-warehouse stocking; delivery times and rates are per the official logistics plans.
Payments & settlement
Allegro Pay offers buyers buy-now-pay-later/consumer credit (PLN 10.8B in loans in 2024, ~14% of GMV); sellers settle in PLN (international sites support EUR/CZK/HUF and other currencies); settlement cycles are per the official terms; the platform remits to sellers via the Allegro wallet/bank transfer.
Compliance
The Polish market requires compliance with local VAT (Polish 23% VAT) and consumer-protection laws; Poland's OCCP (Office of Competition and Consumer Protection) conducted an unannounced inspection of the platform in Feb 2026 (linked to the dispute over switching to InPost as carrier), and both the platform and sellers face regulatory attention. Cross-border sellers need EU VAT compliance (OSS or local registration); products need CE and other EU certifications. CEE countries (CZ/SK/HU) each require separate compliance.
Key risks
1) Single-market dependence: Poland accounts for 96% of group GMV, internationalization is slow (FY25 international GMV only +2.2%), and international buyers' AOV is only a small fraction of Poland's; 2) logistics and regulatory disputes: InPost arbitration claim of €98.7M, Polish OCCP inspection in Feb 2026; 3) Temu/Shein/AliExpress entering Poland and CEE (Polish cross-border orders ~19% and rising) siphon the low-price segment; 4) Polish market maturation: GMV growth slowed from +9.6% in 2024 to +9.1% in 2025.
Best-fit sellers
Best for: low-to-mid-price full-category sellers targeting Poland and CEE (electronics, home, apparel, auto parts, collectibles, etc.) — Chinese/EU sellers with Polish-language capability or willing to use international seller services; the Smart! ecosystem suits high-frequency repeat-purchase, low-AOV volume models. Not suitable for: brands targeting the high-end Western European market without CEE localization capability, or small sellers unable to bear Smart! delivery costs.
